Four Paws Up - Guitar Hero
Uncle Tony and I go to Best Buy all the time. We spend so much money there that we don't even have to bring receipts if we have returns or anything - they just pull up our file and give us whatever we want. It's one of our favorite places. Often, when we are there, we push the 8 year olds out of the way and try out the Play Stations and Xboxes and such. Invariably, the game is something so complicated that get killed in about 10 seconds, and I can't figure out how to even work the controllers. So, I quickly leave Uncle Tony there to play against little Timmy and I go look at DVD's. But the other day, they had a demo of Guitar Hero, complete with the guitar style controller. In the 10 seconds it usually takes me to die, I had figured out how to work the controller, and I played "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand. It was the funnest video game ever. I wasn't even watching the points, but apparently they were racking up like crazy, and I ended up with a 3rd place spot. But even better, all those 8 year olds had to come over and watch. It looks like you are running down a giant guitar neck, and you try to hit the proper chords and strum when you're supposed to, along with the song. What's great is that the chords you hit, you can actually hear in the song. So if you mess up or miss a chord, you can tell. So when the song sounds right, it means you are actually playing it right, and it actually feels liks you are playing a rock song. I could have stood there and played that game all day. We might have to get a PlayStation after all.
